Entry 209– "How Soon Is Now"

by Christopher

Song: “How Soon Is Now”
Artist: David Guetta, Sebastian Ingrosso, Dirty South feat. Julie McKnight

Comments: So far, this song is taking the ‘most artists in the credits’ award. I originally encountered this song on the Swedish House Mafia album “Until One,” and promptly fell in love with it. Hopefully the quality and unique sound of this song makes up for the lateness of this post. Enjoy!

Entry 140– "Turn Me On" and Site Update!

by Christopher

Song: “Turn Me On”
Artist: David Guetta feat. Nicki Minaj

Comments:
First, the site update. You probably noticed that instead of just a link, I left a video embedded in this post– a function of Blogger I’d never thought to use until now. I’m going to play around with that until it works well and looks good. Any input is appreciated.

And now for the song. The latest release from David Guetta (I think he’s trying for some awards or something, with this many singles…), featuring Nicki Minaj. I’m torn on this song– I love 80% of it, and I’m only “meh” about the other 20%, which happens to be the part where Ms. Minaj is rapping. When she sings, she’s pretty decent. For what it’s worth, I could see her being mistaken for sounding like Rihanna in the chorus (starts 0:54),  and it’s quite excellent. At 2:46, she loses me until about 3:01. I suspect it will eventually grow on me, but I think the song would have been just fine without that break in it. In all fairness, I’m probably still baised against Nicki Minaj because of her latest release, “Stupid Hoe,” which I do not like, and frankly find rather annoying. Given time, I would write out a long, reasoned argument on why this song is objectively bad as opposed to me just subjectively disliking it, and I might, but for the moment, I’ll let it go.

Entry 103- Pop Week, Part 4: "Without You"

by Christopher

Pop Week, Part 4
Song: “Without You”
Arist: David Guetta featuring Usher
http://youtu.be/jUe8uoKdHao
Comments: I don’t know what’s with David Guetta and altering the planet in his music videos, but after spinning the globe around in his video to “Little Bad Girl,” he’s rearranging the continents in this one. “Without You” is sitting at number 21 on the YouTube Music charts and number 7 on the Billboard, and is getting played every other song on the radio, it seems like. Anyway, this wraps up Pop Week. Hope you all enjoyed it, and enjoy your weekend!

Entry 24– "Boom Boom Guetta"

by Christopher

Song: “Boom Boom Guetta”
Artist: The Black Eyed Peas and David Guetta
http://youtu.be/meXgTQy5jEY (Clean, music video)
http://youtu.be/sIhoZ6jKPiY (Explicit)
Comments: Holy wow, this blog has over 300 hits! As a special thank you to my awesome audience, I’ve decided to put up a weekend post. Boom Boom Guetta has the distinction of being one of the best remixes I’ve ever heard. I prefer the Explicit version (second link) over the Clean version (first link) for two reasons: A) I do not, under any circumstances, approve of song censorship, and B) the first video, while cool, feels like an advertisement for HP. That said, unlike many remixes, this doesn’t have major structural changes to the song as compared to the original. It feels much more club-like, but considering that it’s by David Guetta, that’s hardly surprising. All in all, an excellent song– check it out!

Entry 20– "Little Bad Girl"

by Christopher

Song: “Little Bad Girl”
Artist: David Guetta feat. Taio Cruz and Ludacris

Comments: HOLY TWENTIETH POST, BATMAN! So, I have a notion not to include new, popular songs. However, the title of this blog is “Stuck in My Skull,” and has this song ever lived up to that… Listen at your own risk– it’s incredibly catchy.
