Entry 294– "Happy Up Here"

by Christopher

Song: “Happy Up Here” || Artist: Röyksopp || http://youtu.be/51Bpx63wkbA ||

Comments: Sorry about the late entry, folks! For today, I was thinking a nice, happy song is in order, because I’m in a really good mood today. Röyksopp make really happy songs, in my opinion, and usually has really weird videos to go with them. I’d never actually seen the video for this song until I watched it to start writing this entry. It’s a little odd, but on the other hand, it’s nothing compared to “Beautiful Day Without You.” That song has a really, really, really weird video. Trippy, even. Anyway, enjoy the song, and smile!

Entry 228: Heart Week 2, Part 3– "Only This Moment"

by Christopher

Heart Week 2, Part 3
Song: “Only This Moment”

Artist: Royksopp

http://youtu.be/qz-nhcfTfWQ
Comments: I’ve known about Röyksopp since someone (Kelsey) showed me the video to “Remind Me” about two years ago. I don’t know when I found this song, but I liked it, and oddly enough, promptly forgot about it. Most of the Röyksopp I know comes from their album “Junior,” whereas this song comes from “The Understanding.” Since I forgot about it, it never really crossed my mind to think about the lyrics at all, much less as a love song, but when I stumbled across it preparing for this week, it just sounded perfect. The lyrics are a tad misleading in the first half, and not always the most cheerful, but like any good relationship, it works out by the end. “Only this moment / Holds us together / Close to perfection / Nothing else out there / Always beside her / Trusting my senses / Deep down inside I know love will survive.”

Entry 130: Break Up Week, Part 1– "Beautiful Day Without You"

by Christopher

Break Up Week, Part 1
Song: “Beautiful Day Without You”
Artist: Royksopp

Comments: I don’t usually do so many theme weeks so soon, but two dear friends of mine and friends to this blog just split up, and so I’m throwing a week to help them out as best I can. This song is one of the two that helped me move on after my previous relationship ended, and I hope that all the broken hearts out there find it helpful. I can’t promise that random butterflies will appear or any of the other fantastical things that happen in the video, but I feel confident in saying that this song might manage to brighten your day. Also, a happy birthday to Amanda!

Entry 60– "It’s What I Want"

by Christopher

Song: “It’s What I Want”
Artist: Royksopp

Comments: What I want– several more hours of sleep. As this song says, however: “It’s what I want that’s easy. It’s getting it that’s complicated.” Anyway, I couldn’t decide between this song, “Tricky Tricky” by Royksopp, or “Teardrop” by Massive Attack, but after listening to this song on my way to grab breakfast, I decided to use this one. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Entry 56– New Spins Week, Part 3: "Clocks"

by Christopher

New Spins Week, Part 3
Song: “Clocks”
Artist: Royksopp
Spin on: “Clocks” by Coldplay
http://youtu.be/OVPJMMwzIC8 (Spin)
http://youtu.be/vKw7yvoZ-Tg (Original)
Comments: Unlike the first two songs featured in this series, this song is a straight remix– no sampling, no vocal alterations, just a pure remix of an existing song. I’m a pretty harsh critic of remixes, and finding one that I actually like is generally impossible, but this remix pulls it off with amazing style. Enjoy!

Entry 27– "Beautiful Day Without You"

by Christopher

Song: “Beautiful Day Without You”
Artist: Royksopp
http://youtu.be/nww7ywDLzY0
Comments: Sorry this is going up so late. I really hate doing two electronic songs in a row, but I feel as though this is different enough from “Children” to make up for it. Also, I promise that tomorrow won’t be a third electronic song. Right, so– this song is one of my all-time favourite songs, holding both a great deal of sentimental value to me, and my praise as an excellent song in general. The video, too, should not be missed.
